DELIZIE AL LIMONE, TRIFLE VERSION🍋
Lemon Delight, or Delizia al Limone, is synonymous with the Amalfi Coast. These mini sponge cakes filled and coated with lemon custard were created in 1978 by Carmine Marzuillo, a pastry chef from the Amalfi Coast, and the Lemon Delight immediately became one of Campania's most popular desserts.(lacucinaitaliana.com)
These delicacies are to be made with the giant lemons from the Amalfi Coast, but of course all I could find were regular lemons, but trust me, it's just as delicious!
This recipe yields 6-8 portions depending on the size of your serving cups. You can also make it in a large trifle bowl or a dish.
*Note: ALL INGREDIENTS NEED TO BE COLD BEFORE ASSEMBLING TRIFLES. I RECOMMEND MAKING CURD AND SYRUP A DAY AHEAD.
SYRUP INGREDIENTS
-250 gr sugar
-250 gr water
-Peel from 2 lemons
-150 ml Limoncello
CUSTARD INGREDIENTS
-250 gr water
-200 gr sugar
-200 ml lemon juice (6 lemons or so)
- Zest of 2 lemons
-125 gr flour
-4 yolks
-1 can of sweetened condensed milk
-1Tbs vanilla
-Pinch of salt
OTHER INGREDIENTS
-300 gr (2 packs) of giant lady fingers
-750 ml heavy cream
-1/4 cup honey or agave (to sweeten cream)
